How To Oven Fry Chicken - Seven Coating Recipes For Crunchy Chicken

Baking is healthier than frying, since the cooking method uses no oil, but baked chicken lacks that thick crunchy outer crust we love. By using this oven fried cooking method for chicken and one of these seven flavorful coatings, you can have the best of both worlds, healthy oven fried chicken with a crunch.

Crunchy Coating

Turn boring baked chicken into a taste bud delight by using one of these crunchy coating recipes.

Cheesy Chicken - 3 cups of cheese crackers, .5 teaspoon of onion powder and teaspoon of pepper.

Crispy Curry Chicken - 3 cups of French fried onion rings and 2 teaspoons of curry.

Crunchy Herb Chicken - 1 .5 cups of herb flavored stuffing mix, 1 teaspoon each of paprika and onion powder.

Honey Mustard Coating - 3 cups of honey mustard pretzels and teaspoon of pepper.

Crispy Ranch Chicken - 1 .5 cups of Rice Krispies cereal and 1 envelope of Ranch dressing mix.

How To Apply Crunchy Coating

Place desired crunchy coating recipe mix into a large Ziploc bag. When using crunchy coatings that contain the larger ingredients like cheese crackers, French fried onion rings and so forth, seal the Ziploc bag and crush ingredients with a rolling pin before adding the chicken.

Remove the skin from the chicken and dip the chicken into an egg wash (beat 1-2 eggs, or egg whites, in a shallow container). Place 1-2 pieces of chicken at a time in the Ziploc bag containing the crunchy coating mix and shake until the chicken is well coated.

Oven Frying

Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Prepare a shallow baking pan by lining it with aluminum foil and spray the foil with a non-stick cooking spray.

As the coated chicken is removed from the Ziploc bag, spray each piece with a light coating of non-stick cooking spray. Arrange chicken pieces in a single layer on the baking pan and oven fry for 30-35 minutes until the coating is brown.

Removing the skin from the chicken and not using cooking oil keeps oven frying a healthy cooking option. The flavored, crunchy coating makes ordinary chicken an extraordinary dinner delight the whole family will enjoy.
